Norvasc 5mg tablets are used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina). These tablets contain Amlodipine, which is used to treat angina and heart failure (blockage of certain blood vessels in the chest and abdomen; also reduces the risk of cardiovascular strokes). Amlodipine is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, which is used to lower blood pressure and prevent angina. It decreases the size of narrowed arteries, thus decreasing the risk of heart attacks or stroke. Amlodipine blocks the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and increases the levels of a chemical called angiotensin II (ARIA). Amlodipine is available in many strengths, and it is not recommended for use by patients who have not been advised by their doctor.
Not all men who take Norvasc tablets are eligible for this medicine. In some cases, this may result in side effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, stomach upset, or headache. If these occur, stop taking Norvasc and consult your doctor. Do not take Norvasc more than once a day. If you have had a heart attack or stroke within the past 90 days, talk to your doctor about whether you should continue to take this medicine. Norvasc is not for use by women and children. Norvasc tablets are only available with a doctor’s prescription. Norvasc has been shown to cause dizziness in some patients. In rare cases, sudden decreased vision, called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), has been reported in patients taking Norvasc. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires you to be alert until you can do it. Contact your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms, the condition be more serious contact your doctor immediately (also called permanent loss of vision) such as temporary or sudden changes in vision, sudden decreased hearing, or ringing in the ears and dizziness.

If you have diabetes, amyl nitrite may cause your blood sugar to go too high. If you have asthma, tell your doctor you are taking Norvasc before taking the medicine. Do not take Norvasc if you are dehydrated, have kidney problems, are already using other medicines, take other ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), and diuretics (water tablets). Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms: swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue, a cold, red or purple skin rash, severe stomach upset or vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, blurred vision, or difficulty breathing. If any of these apply to you, tell your doctor about your medical history before taking Norvasc. Do not take Norvasc if you are not sure if you are taking this medicine. Norvasc is not for use by women. Before you take Norvasc, talk to your doctor about whether you should continue to take the medicine.
Like all medicines, Norvasc can cause side effects. Most of the time these are mild and disappear after a few days to a few weeks. The most common side effects are headache, flushing, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and rash.
